What is the Windows PV Driver Subproject/team?

This project has taken the the XenServer Windows PV Drivers, re-written them and contributed them to the Xen Project. The Windows PV Driver Subproject is developing these drivers under Xen Project governance. One of the reasons to do this, is to make the drivers more easily signable and distributable via the Windows driver update mechanism. Note that the subproject is not maintaining the GPL PV drivers.

To verify the version of network drivers loaded on XenServer, complete the following procedure:

  1. To find the specific driver in use, run modinfo against the driver name.

    For example, # modinfo be2net

    Example output is:

The Version indicates the version of the driver being used. The version information can differ from the version driver previously installed. This is because a newer kernel version is used than the version, the drivers where compiled for.

  2. To find the current kernel version in use, run the following command:
    # uname - r
The output is similar to this example:
    2.6.32.43-0.4.1.xs1.8.0.847.170785xen

  3. If the kernel version in use is newer than the kernel version the drivers were installed for, it is likely the default drivers for the new kernel are in use. To resolve this, install the kernel-specific drivers.

  4. To find drivers compiled for the specific driver in use, search the Citrix Knowledge Base for the kernel version in use, without the trailing “xen” (for example, 2.6.32.43-0.4.1.xs1.8.0.847.170785). You can find various drivers compiled for that kernel version.
